My stance on computer software: "Modern" software is always trash, without exception, there are many things wrong with it, and yet I don't have to accept it, I don't have to comply with the rapist mentality of the sick and twisted corporations that have completely lost it and see consumer choice more as a burden that needs to be eliminated to force their users onto their way of operating a computer. What I have chosen to do to preserve my sanity is to reject what is forced upon me and instead build my own environment that respects my terms. The "modern" web is constantly devolving and collapsing under its own weight, with scummy advertising and subscription-based business models everywhere you look. I do not want to and will not tolerate that to be the way that my entire computing experience is structured. You may not agree with my approach to computing, but if so, you might be brainwashed by years of corporate conditioning and association of chronological age with uselessness. You wouldn't replace yourself with a newborn baby merely because you are old, think about that the next time you "upgrade" your computer. The term "upgrade" has now also devolved to mean "Replace perfectly functional and operational hardware just because the manufacturer or software vendor told you so", which goes back to the "rapist mentality" that these software providers have—a term which is harsh yet couldn't be more truthful given how "modern" computing is seen by people. The term was brought up and created by Louis Rossman, a man who I deeply admire and whose work has helped millions of individuals worldwide. However, the main point I am trying to make is that the modern, present-day expectation of all software and hardware companies is that the user does not have the option to opt out or say no, the user choice is seen as a burden and a problem that companies are trying to remove. Hence why the term "rapist mentality" is perfectly reasonable and true—it is not merely the expectation of user obedience and inability of saying no, but also the way that newer software operates. It operates against the user, rather than for the user. While most people think that what I use is "dead" because it's "too old", in reality, they either don't understand the issue or have been brainwashed by modern media to reject their own autonomy in favor of what hardware and software vendors dictate. Whether you agree with this or not, it's your choice. At least I leave it up to you to decide, unlike the "modern" computing industry as a whole I actually don't mind you having a choice, that said though I know that when I would have the finances to afford "modern" hardware, I will absolutely buy it, but my approach to using it will remain- no cloud, no stupid sign ins, pirated and cracked software whenever the fuck a one time purchase software license becomes a subscription for literally no fucking reason. I am not absolute with this approach to computing. I do not reject "modern" software, I still use systems that run it, however, I do it on my own terms.. I run modern software selectively and by choice, not obligation.
